We the People Dissent is a series honoring resistance networks through images, crossword and scrabble tiles, collage and interactive reworked civic texts that challenge systems of oppression through community unlearning and engagement.

The works take the founding language of the nation state such declarations, bills of rights, oaths, anthems and turns it inside out: independence becomes interdependence, rights become belonging, the anthem's conquest becomes land back, the surveillant eye is inverted into one that dreams.

 

They confront the harms of borders, surveillance, settler colonialism and imperial power while imagining their antidotes through symbolism, language and wordplay. Through various interventions, the surfaces built to sell to us and surveil us are recast as sites of re-imagining.

Familiar language and symbols are constantly disrupted: words are scrambled and recast, oaths are withdrawn, blanks are left open. Viewers are invited to fill, refuse, overwrite or leave empty each gesture an opening for collective authorship. Every oath becomes revisable, every "self-evident" truth is a question a community can reopen, every "we" is a membership being negotiated by the people it was built to exclude.

Dissent becomes a collective claim on who the people might yet become, by mobilizing, collectivizing, unlearning and dreaming our way toward shared liberation.
